October Skater of the Month

Name: Steve Rogers

Nickname: Steve Austin, man barely alive

Age: 56

Marital Status: Single

Have been skating for how long: I've been skating quads since the early 80's, but got into inlines around 2009.

Equipment Brand and Type: Bont Vaypors on 110s, plus some Rollerblade Twister 80mm skates for noodling around, and my quads

Life Philosophies: Take what you want and pay for it.

Favorite Time of Day to Skate: Afternoon and evening, when the shadows are getting long.

Favorite Skating Event: Texas Road Rash

Awards/Competitive Wins: Some places in Battle at Bear Creek, the Houston Inline Marathon, and Texas Road Rash.

Most Memorable Incident: Doing a week of skating at Eddie's Skate Farm.

What do you get from Skating: The camaraderie in both the inline and quad communities is great. Skating is very open-ended - there's always something new to learn.

Would like to do this Year in Skating: Get my stopping skills up to snuff, break a 9:00 lap at the veloway.

Coolest Accomplishment: Skating the 42 mile Rodeo Road Rally in Mesquite.

Other Sports/Hobbies you Enjoy: I have my private pilot's license. Dabbled in photography. Done quite a bit of rocketry.

Favorite skating gadget/tool: I almost always skate with a Garmin 910 and an iPod shuffle.

What doyuo enjoy about being a member of HCIC: Lots of fun events, lots of camaraderie.

Your 2 favorite HCIC Events: Regular Thursday skates.

Mentors: John Thurmon, Bill Harrison.

Helpful advice to other skaters/ Beginners: Enjoy where you're at while you're getting better.

Favorite Quote: " A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others."
